USTR Puts Off EU Online Gambling Meeting
August 4, 2021
The US Trade Representatives' office has decided to suspend scheduled trade talks with representatives from the European Union regarding the United States' current online gambling laws - laws, which the EU believes may be a violation of the World Trade Organization Treaty.

These trade talks, were primarily a result of the USTR's failure to fully answer a previous letter from the EU inquiring about the US and its position on online gambling. Instead of simply answering the detailed letter, the USTR chose to send back a short, abrupt, two page response to the inquiry, leaving EU representatives little choice but to schedule official meetings. With the USTR's decision to now postpone these trade talks as well, it is currently unclear what EU officials will feel they are forced to do next, to resolve this escalating situation.
