LAPT: Day One In Uruguay
August 8, 2021
351 players showed up yesterday in Punta del Este, Uruguay for the Latin America Poker Tour, creating a total prize pool of $851,175. Just a few of the notable players in that field included Humberto Brenes, Chad Brown, Greg Raymer, Vanessa Rousso, Brandon Cantu, Jason Mercier, and PokerRoad's Barry Greenstein, as well as perhaps the most known player of the WSOP's "November Nine," David "Chino" Rheem.

This was Rheem's first major tournament since his successful run during the World Series Of Poker Main Event, but it seems any rush he may have been on has ended as he busted fairly early on Day 1. Rheem's elimination was not the only one of note for the day as Greenstein, Brown, Mercier, and Cantu all suffered the same Day 1 fate.

By the end of the day only 95 players remained; however, quite a few of those players are still big name pros including Humberto and Alex Brenes, WSOP Main Event Champion Greg Raymer, and Carter Gill. Gill, although less known, is having a very good summer, first making the final table in Event #7 of the WSOP and now ending the day In Uruguay as the LAPT's current chip leader.
