Timoshenko Wins APT Macau
September 2, 2021
20-year-old Yevgeniy Timoshenko is now a half a million dollars richer after taking down the second leg of the Asian Poker Tour, the APT Macau Main Event. Timoshenko beat out an initial field of 257 players to take the title, a field that included Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, J.C. Tran, Liz Lieu, and David "Chino" Rheem.

Yevgeniy Timoshenko entered the final table with 318,000 in chips, good for fourth out of eight players. Despite his unremarkable stack, he was able to dominate the tough final table that held, among others, tournament professional Casey Kastle. Kastle had by far the most tournament experience at the table, but in the end, he was just one more notch on Timoshenko's holster. Yevgeniy Timoshenko personally knocked out six of the seven opponents he faced.

When heads-up play began, Timoshenko had second place finisher Joon Hee Yeah all but crushed, entering the last stage of the tournament with almost 10 times more chips than Yeah. Yeah did his best and fought valiantly with his short stack, but the smell of inevitability was in the air, and eventually Joon Hee Yeah would have to bow and settle for the $250,000 second place prize.
