California Outlaws 'Ladies Only' Events
February 1, 2022
California's Bureau of Gaming Control has taken steps to outlaw women's only poker tournaments. After determining that 'ladies only' tournaments may be in violation of California's anti-discrimination laws, the Bureau sent out a press release to the state's gambling establishments announcing that they would only sanction events open to all participants, regardless of gender.

Though it is doubtful that the provisions will significantly change the makeup of 'ladies only' events, California card rooms are being forced to change admission rules, and promotional materials for such events.
