Day 1 Of The WSOPE Event #3
September 25, 2021
The third event is underway at the 2008 World Series of Poker Europe, the ?5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha. Day 1 of event #3 saw 165 players enter, to create a total prize pool worth ?825,000 (about 1,513,000 USD).

Given the prestige of the WSOPE, many of those 165 players were well known poker celebrities including Daniel Negreanu, Joe Beevers, Max Pescatori, Doyle Brunson, Allen Cunningham, David WIlliams, Mike Matusow, Gus Hansen and Annette Obrestad. Obrestad, started off well in the event, but then had the worst thing happen to her that can happen in Omaha, she made a hand. "Annette_15" flopped a full house only to run into David Williams' full house and to paraphrase "Jaws," Annette soon discovered she needed a bigger boat (to learn more about Annette's bust out hand visit the PokerRoad forums, where she discuses it with other top players in Barry's new "Red Pro Strategy Discussions" thread). Other pros to follow Obrestad out the door included Matusow, Hansen, Negreanu, Eli Elezra, Brandon Adams and Phil Ivey.

Of the 165 starting players, only 45 remained by the end of Day 1. Those still in contention include Andy Bloch, Sorel Mizzi, Jason Mercier, Shaun Deeb, Phil Laak, Mike "Timex" McDonald, Chris Ferguson and Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott.
