Day 1b In Auckland

As expected, Day 1b of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour Auckland Main Event saw another large field hit the felt for a shot at New Zealand's biggest ever poker tournament prize pool. 142 players played the second heat in Auckland, meaning the tournament was able to attract 306 players altogether including Lee Nelson, Joe Hachem, and Eric Assadourian.

Eric Assadourian, the 2007 APPT Macau High Roller winner, was an early casualty of the tumultuous Day 1b after losing his whole stack within the first hour of play. According to official reports from, Assadourian got it all in good with pocket kings against jacks but was unfortunately drawn out on at the river, when his opponents deadly two outer fell. 95 others slowly followed Assadourian out the door leaving only 47 players by the end of Day 1b play. These lucky 47 will now join the 59 Day 1a survivors as they continue their way towards a money bubble which looms a mere 73 eliminations away.
