Sweden's Tax Board Sets It's Sights On Poker Players
February 7, 2022
Sweden's tax board, Skatteverket, is using sophisticated internet web crawlers to target poker players suspected of tax evasion. Initially Skatteverket claimed they would only be going after online poker sites and affiliates but have since changed their tune, identifying 47 different cases of individual poker players they believe are guilty of not reporting winnings.

Sweden has begun using the Xenon project as their web crawler, a popular web spider also used by Austria, Denmark, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The U.S., thus far, is not a part of the project, but the I.R.S won't confirm or deny whether they use similar web spiders in their own tax evasion investigations.
