"ElkY" Redefines Aggression To Win WPT Festa
October 27, 2021
It has oft been said that aggression wins poker tournaments. If that is indeed a truism, it was proven over the weekend during the final two days of the World Poker Tour Festa Al Lago which saw Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier go from eighth in chips with twelve players left remaining, to first with none. "ElkY" truly set a new standard with his aggressive style, personally eliminating 2 of the final twelve on Saturday and all five of the final six on Sunday.

Although always very tough, Grospellier's over the top aggression seemed to be primarily facilitated when he was able to take out PokerRoad's own Joe Sebok for a disappointing ninth place. After winning the crucial all-in preflop pot, with Ace-nine vs. Sebok's King-nine, Grospellier suddenly had a huge and commanding chip lead over the rest of the field. At that point "ElkY" personally controlled almost 5 million in tournament chips, giving him a more than two-to-one chip advantage over his closest rival, Nam Le. That advantage proved itself to be insurmountable, and despite some of the best players in the game still in the field like Nenad Medic, Adam "Roothlus" Levy, and WSOP $50,000 H.O.R.S.E runner-up Michael DeMichele, it was just a matter of time before "ElkY" was able to claim the WPT title and a first prize worth $1,411,015.

The Final Table finish positions for the 2008 World Poker Tour Festa Al Lago at Bellagio were as follows:

1st. Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier- $1,411,015
2nd. Nam Le- $943,215
3rd. Osmin "Oddie" Dardon- $506,245
4th. Nenad Medic- $373,010
5th. Adam "Roothlus" Levy- $266,445
6th. William Mietz- $186,510
