The first Asian Poker Tour (APT) main event of 2009 begins in the Philippines today and so far it looks like its going to be a very interesting year.   

This multi-day, $2,500 buy-in No Limit Hold ‘em tournament, will start its players with 10,000 in tournament chips and is expected to attract many of the top players in the game, including the notorious APT poker pack which consists of Nam Le, JC Tran, David “Chino” Rheem, Kwang Soo Lee, Quinn Do and PokerRoad blogger Steve Sung. 

Last year’s APT Philippines stop, had 316 tough entrants and a total prize pool worth $783,000.  The event was eventually taken down by David Saab who earned a top prize of $280,000.
