March 17, 2022

The first day of play of the $10,000 buy-in, World Poker Tour Bay 101 Shooting Star Championship began Monday with 136 registered Day 1a players.

Eighty-six of those players did not survive the troublesome first day one, including numerous top pros, each with $5,000 bounties on their heads, a.k.a. "Shooting Stars."

Some of the featured "Shooting Stars" already eliminated from the tournament include David Singer, Andy Bloch, Erik Seidel, Jerry Yang, John Juanda, Lee Watkinson, Phil Hellmuth, Jamie Gold, Marco Traniello, Todd Brunson, Mike Matusow, Robert Williamson III and Layne Flack.

"Shooting Star" players fortunate enough to still be in the mix by the end of yesterday's play include Annie Duke, Hoyt Corkins, Erick Lindgren, Kenny Tran and PokerRoad Radio's Gavin Smith and Joe Sebok.

Day 1b is scheduled to begin today (3/17) at 10:45 am PT, and is expected to attract an even larger field accompanied by another 25 "Shooting Stars." Among Day 1b's "Shooting Stars" will be PokerRoad's Barry Greenstein, Jeff Madsen, Chris Ferguson, Jennifer Harman, Phil Ivey and last year's champion Brandon Cantu.
